American Bone Health and Susan G. Komen® Team Up for ‘Healthy Living’ Campaign

MARCH 22, 2019 – American Bone Health and Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, are launching a new educational campaign for participants in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day®, the organization’s signature 60-mile walk series. events to maintain strong bones and protect against osteoporosis and fractures. Entitled “Healthy Living: Preparing Your Mind, Body and Bones for the 3-Day,” the joint effort will empower and equip participants with vital information centered on how to lead a healthier lifestyle and how to train for the grueling event while maintaining strong bones and protecting against bone loss and fractures.

The campaign will include helpful articles, blog posts, emails, social media content and a special campaign landing page hosted on American Bone Health’s website, americanbonehealth.org.

As part of this collaboration, American Bone Health will provide information on signs and symptoms of osteoporosis; bone density testing and knowing your fracture risk; bone-healthy nutrition; bone-healthy training for the 3-Day walk; and tips for how to talk to your doctor about making a plan to protect your bone health.

Financial support for the campaign is provided by Amgen.

“American Bone Health is proud to join forces with Susan G. Komen to educate, engage and empower the 3-Day community on bone health,” said Kathleen Cody, Executive Director of American Bone Health. “The 3-Day participants, their sponsors, supporters and loved ones are an inspiration to those of us who advocate for healthy living, and this campaign is a great opportunity to share important information that will serve the 3-Day community long after the events have ended.”

The Komen 3-Day series hosts events in seven cities across the U.S. between August and November. Participants walk 60 miles over three days and camp together as a community in campgrounds or hotels, all in an effort to do something bold in the fight against breast cancer.  More than 500,000 people nationwide have participated in a 3-Day walk.  Over the history of the series, participants have raised more than $848 million in support of Susan G. Komen’s fight to end breast cancer.

Brenda Davis is Chair of the Board of Directors of American Bone Health and a cancer survivor. “Since joining the board of American Bone Health, I have learned more about how cancer is often connected to bone health,” Davis said. “There are many people like me who can benefit from being aware of the importance of protecting their bones as we age.”
