Meet the Volunteers

  • Peggy Herforth

    Peggy Herforth

Hello! I am the Wellness Director at our Mon Valley YMCA and have been inspired to motivate others to take responsibility for their good health through fitness for the last 37 years. My 88 year old mom has had 6 fractures in the last 6 years and that led me to my interest in becoming a bone density educator. Thank you to American Bone Health for teaching me and helping me, in turn, to teach others how to care for their framework.

Hi! I am a 57 year old wife of a surgeon, mother of 4 grown children (3 sons, 1 daughter) and live in Orinda, California. I have been a volunteer for almost all of my adult life and am most fulfilled when I am giving of my time/skills where there is a need. I went back to college after my kids were grown and am the proud graduate of a BA in psychology. My hobbies are wide: hiking, jogging, knitting, quilting, traveling, bike riding, and reading (any suggestions of a great book(s) you’ve read are welcome!). I’m really excited to join American Bone Health! I’ve always considered mental and physical health to be paramount to living an independent life at all ages/stages of life. Often a woman in her early fifties is shocked when informed that she has osteopenia. That was me years ago. Since then I have been on a journey to build my bone density and educate those interested in bone health. I was never one to exercise or play sports but now I am a regular at my gym doing Zumba 2-3 times a week. My plant based diet is now supplemented with bone targeted supplements and monitored by calculating daily calcium intake. It’s still a challenge to get out in the sun for the best source of Vitamin D but I get to Hawaii once a year to visit family.
