American Bone Health has closed. However, on October 1, 2023, we joined forces with the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF) so that BHOF could continue offering all of the important programs and services created by American Bone Health. Please visit www.bonehealthandosteoporosis.
If you think bone health matters only to people of a certain age, race, or gender, think again!
Healthy bones are important for everyone. Starting in childhood, physical activity and proper nutrition help the bones grow up strong. During young adulthood, continuing healthy habits help the bones achieve peak mass. During middle age, medical conditions, medicines, and lifestyle factors can take a toll on the bones. As women reach menopause, bone loss accelerates with loss of estrogen. Men begin to lose bone rapidly around age 70.
At every step along the way, the choices we make affect the health of our bones. It is never too early or too late to start taking care of our bones, but it’s important to know where to begin. That is where we come in!
May is National Osteoporosis Month, and American Bone Health is here to help you Build Better Bones.
This month is only the beginning of your journey, but here is how you can get started.
If you are 45 or older, take a moment to use the American Bone Health Fracture Risk Calculator™. This scientifically validated tool gives you an estimate of your risk of breaking a bone in the next 10 years.
Once you know where you stand, you can take action to Build Better Bones.
Here is a rundown of the programs and resources we are offering during National Osteoporosis Month.
To help people Build Better Bones, American Bone Health depends on the generosity of our supporters. Many of those who donate funds and volunteer their time have personally benefited from American Bone Health’s community educational programming. This year, on May 18, we rally for bone health education on 2022 American Bone Health Giving Day.
Improving your balance is one great way to Build Better Bones. How good is your balance? Take the Balance Challenge to Build Better Bones, and share your results on TikTok.
